The Forest Effect

Explore the science. Experience it for yourself.

A three-hour experiential woodland workshop at Basing Woods, Basingstoke

Why does time among trees make us feel different?

The Forest Effect may particularly appeal if you are curious about why nature makes you feel better, interested in the evidence behind forest bathing, or simply want to experience the autumn woodland in a completely different way.

Most of us instinctively recognise that stepping into nature changes something, but what might be happening within the mind and body to create this shift?

The Forest Effect is an autumn forest bathing workshop with a difference. Together, we will explore some of the fascinating ideas behind the relationship between nature and human wellbeing, including Attention Restoration Theory, Stress Reduction Theory, biophilia and the possible role of phytoncides released by trees.

But this won’t be a science lecture in the woods.

Each idea will be brought to life through a carefully chosen forest bathing invitation, giving you the opportunity to experience the theory through your own senses.

Autumn provides a particularly beautiful setting for this exploration. Colour, scent, texture, movement and change are all around us, gently inviting our attention away from the busyness of everyday life and back into the present moment.

You don’t have to believe in forest bathing. You are simply invited to notice what happens.

What to expect

During this gentle three-hour experience, you will be guided through:

  • A guided awakening of each of our senses – sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.
  • Short, accessible introductions to the science and theories
  • Forest bathing invitations designed to help you explore each idea
  • Slow walking, quiet observation and time to pause
  • A peaceful sit spot
  • A closing tea circle with time to reflect and share

No scientific knowledge or previous forest bathing experience is required. This is not a hike, and we will cover only a short distance at a slow and unhurried pace.

Come and explore the science beneath the stillness and experience the forest effect for yourself.

Places are intentionally limited to preserve a small, welcoming group atmosphere.

Booking is essential.
